Dr. V.K. Jain is a highly celebrated and experienced neurosurgeon with more than 44 years of experience as a specialist in the field. He is currently the principal director of the neurosurgery department at Max Super Speciality Hospital. He has also worked with some of the best hospitals in India, including holding the position of Chairman of Neurosurgery at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. Dr. Jain has an extensive academic background, having served as a professor at SGPGIMS, Lucknow, from 1999 to 2010, and previously as an associate professor at NIMHANS, Bangalore. His international experience includes visiting fellowships and professorships at institutions such as the University Hospital of Geneva, Switzerland, and Fujita Gakuen Health University, Japan.
Dr. Jain’s educational qualifications include an MCh in Neurosurgery from NIMHANS and an MBBS from King George Medical College. His advanced training in neurosurgery has been reinforced through specialised courses and fellowships, including a gamma knife radiosurgery course in Japan, a stereotactic techniques workshop in Sweden, and a micro-neurosurgery fellowship in Japan.
As the most famous spine surgeon in Delhi, Dr. Jain has held several notable positions. He has been the past president of organisations such as the Neurological Society of India, the Skull Base Surgery Society of India, and the Indian Society of Cerebro-Vascular Surgery, to name a few. His involvement in the Asian Congress of Neurosurgery showcases his influence on the neurosurgical community.
Dr. Jain also has his hands on research and believes research to be the way of advancing neurosurgery. His main areas of research are cerebrovascular surgery, skull base surgery, intraventricular tumour surgery, and craniovertebral junction surgery. A book titled ‘Craniovertebral Junction Anomalies – The Indian Experience’ was published by him in 1997. In it, he talks about new techniques and entities in neurosurgery, such as a surgical approach for atlantoaxial dislocation and a new entity called benign subarachnoid haemorrhage.
