He graduated from the prestigious medical institute of India called JIPMER, Pondicherry and after completing his MBBS and MS (ENT) from JIPMER, moved to the UK. He completed the DLO and the FRCS(Otolaryngology) from the Royal College of Surgeons. He was awarded a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) for his work on cochlear implants at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London by the University of London.

He was also awarded the Philip Stell Prize in 2006 for this work by the Otorhinolaryngological Research Society of the UK.
