Dr. Krishna Subramony Iyer completed his MBBS from All India Institute of Medical Sciences in 1978 and won a gold medal for being the best graduate of the year. After that, he did M.Ch in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, followed by MS in general surgery. Next, he joined the cardiothoracic and vascular surgery department at AIIMS.

Dr. K S Iyer received training in pediatric and infant cardiac surgery in 1989. The training was conducted at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, and Dr. R.B.B.
