Dr. P.K. Sharma - Obstetrics and Gynecology Doctor

Dr P.K. Sharma is the CMD of Pratiksha Group of Hospitals, Pratiksha School of Nursing. He did his MD in Obstetrics and Gynecology from Guwahati Medical College in 1991. While pursuing his studies he had taken into account the fact that advanced treatment in infertility (In vitro fertilization) – for test-tube babies was not available in the northeast region. He is a well-known obstetrics and gynecology doctor in India with the experience of more than 20 years now. 

In 1995 he went to Melbourne, Australia and did his fellowship in IVF and minimally invasive surgery at Royal Women hospital. Though he was offered a job where he preferred to come back to Guwahati and serve the people of the northeast region. He successfully delivered the first IVF of his centre at a Guwahati based charitable hospital on 13th Feb1997.

He then joined as a programme director of IVF centre in a renowned hospital in the year 1998, where he delivered the first ICSI baby from testicular sperm in the year 1999. During the period from 1996 to 2013, he had attended several conferences in different parts of India as well as in Europe and America as a guest speaker and panellist.

First baby by Frozen Blastocyst Transfer (FET)

In 2009 the first baby through the method of Frozen Blast cyst Transfer was born, under Dr.Sharma’s initiative.  Dr Sharma knew that a baby is the ultimate source of happiness for any woman as motherhood is inherent in all women and it is the most beautiful feeling in the universe. But high neonatal mortality rates due to intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), preterm delivery, premature low birth weight, multiple pregnancies were obstacles to this human desire; hence to overcome this he established a fully equipped advanced neonatal care unit which is manned by a very efficient team of doctors and nurses. This unit has successfully saved many highly premature babies as early as 28 weeks weighing as less as 600gms. It also has the facility of safely transferring unhealthy babies from the periphery.
