Fortis Hospital, Bengaluru has made a major advancement in kidney transplant surgery by launching TREAT (Total Robot Enabled and Assisted Transplant), India’s first dual robotic kidney transplant programme. The announcement was made at a press conference held on 26th June 2025, led by Dr. Ritu Garg, Dr. Mohan Keshavamurthy, and Mr. Akshay Oleti.
This first-of-its-kind programme uses two robotic systems at the same time, one for the kidney donor and one for the recipient. This paves way for greater surgical precision, less trauma to the body, and a faster recovery for both patients.
‘TREAT is a breakthrough in how we perform kidney transplants,’ said Dr. Ritu Garg, Chief Growth & Innovation Officer at Fortis Healthcare. ‘It offers safer and faster surgeries, especially for patients who previously had limited options. More than just improving outcomes, we are helping people get back to their normal lives.’
TREAT is designed to support transplant patients with complex medical conditions, including those with obesity, previous transplants, or unique anatomical challenges. These patients are often considered high-risk for traditional surgery. With TREAT, more of them now have access to life-saving transplants and a better standard of living.
The programme also focuses on improving the experience for kidney donors. The use of robotic systems helps reduce complications, lowers pain, and shortens the recovery period, leading to better results.
With TREAT, Fortis Healthcare is setting a new standard for robotic kidney transplants in India and aims to make advanced transplant care more accessible nationwide.
