Artemis Hospital has once again reinforced its reputation as one of India’s leading healthcare institution by successfully performing four complex ABO-incompatible liver transplants within just 30 days.
The hospital treated four patients, two from India suffering from acute-on-chronic liver failure, and two international patients from Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan, aged 36 and 19 respectively. Due to the critical condition of all four patients, immediate transplantation was needed, making the pre-surgical preparations particularly challenging.
The surgeries were led by Dr. Giriraj Bora, Chief Liver Transplant Surgeon, and his expert team. ABO-incompatible transplants are among the most complex procedures in liver transplantation, as they overcome a significant immunological barrier that often leads to higher risks of graft rejection and infection.
Thanks to the team’s expertise and meticulous planning, all four transplants turned out to be successful, and the patients are now enjoying an improved quality of life.
Commenting on the achievement, Dr. Giriraj Bora said, ‘Achieving success in such high-risk cases requires a highly skilled liver transplant team, thorough preoperative planning, and refined surgical techniques to deliver results comparable to blood group-matched transplants’
