Living Donor Robotic Liver Transplantation

What is a Living Donor Liver Transplantation?

A living donor liver transplant is a liver transplantation surgery in which a portion of a liver is removed from a healthy person and placed in a person with a diseased liver or non-working liver. The removed part in the donor will grow and recover with time. 

What are the Criteria for a Donor?

According to the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, the criteria of living donor for living liver donor transplantation are:

  1. The age of the donor should be between 18 and 55 years.
  2. The donor should be either a first-degree or second-degree relative of the patient. 

What are the Procedures for Liver Transplant Surgery?

There are generally three types of procedures. Depending on the donor's anatomy and financial stability, a surgeon may choose any of the 3 procedures:

  1. Conventional procedure or an open surgery
  2. Laparoscopic procedure using hands
  3. Da Vinci robotic using a robot
